We are looking for an experienced creative designer to lead a small team in our busy Whitechapel studio.
You have substantial experience working in a graphic design studio, or as part of an in-house design team. You take pride in setting high standards for your team, and always provide them with excellent creative leadership. You keep up with trends and innovation in design, always looking for opportunities to learn new things and enhance your skills. You work effectively with clients, ensuring that all aspects of the brief are addressed, and that their expectations are surpassed.
You can work across a wide range of design areas, but you should have particular experience of information design – engaging with clients’ data and ideas to create meaningful and clear infographics for a range of print and digital outputs. You should be able to interrogate and refine clients’ goals and target audiences, and help them to select the most appropriate data and content to communicate their key messages. Experience with interactive visualisations and motion graphics would be a bonus, as would illustration skills for creating icons or more complex imagery.
All of your work should be underpinned by a thorough understanding of typography and hierarchy, and you should be comfortable designing publications – whether that’s bespoke impact reports or magazines, or creating well thought-out document templates to be used by others (including non-specialist designers).
You must have experience of mentoring or line managing more junior members of staff, helping them to develop professionally and ensuring that they deliver work to the required standard.
Reporting to the creative director, you will be responsible for line managing a small team of midweight and junior designers. You’ll work with new business colleagues to understand client briefs, helping to quote and pitch for new work, and allocating incoming projects across your team.
You’ll support other designers in carrying out their work, reviewing and assuring the quality of all our outputs. You’ll provide mentoring and on-the-job training to more junior members of the team, ensuring that they take advantage of development opportunities.
You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, dealing directly with clients, and maintaining a high level of responsiveness. We work with many of the world’s leading think tanks, as well as NGOs and academic institutions, and an appreciation for what they do is essential for all our employees. We are looking for a new colleague who is excited about shaping content and finding creative design solutions to communicate complex policy issues.

Our main services include publication design, digital design and development, branding strategy and design, information design, and film and animation.

We have two studios – one with stunning views over the City and East End in Whitechapel, and the other on the banks of the Avon in the centre of Bath. Both studios have been fitted out to a high standard, with excellent social spaces.
