Design at Bloc
Bloc offers intensive, mentor-led courses for aspiring developers and designers. With structured online courses
in web development, mobile development, and web design, Bloc relies on the time-tested model of the
apprenticeship. Bloc students around the world acquire life-changing skills through hands-on, project-based
learning and continuous mentoring from an experienced professional. In November 2014, Bloc closed a $6M
Series A investment led by Shasta Ventures , and enjoys support from acclaimed seed investors Harrison Metal ,

We're a small team that's passionate about development and design learning. We’re always ready to try new
tools, or experiment with new processes in order to achieve a higher level of quality in our work.
And we like to have fun — whether it’s board game nights, excessive use of puns, or googly eyes hidden
around the office.
What You'll Be Doing
As a designer at Bloc, you'll play a key role in building Bloc and extending Bloc’s presence.
You’ll be wearing different hats on a daily basis — here, you might find yourself wireframing a new addition
to the Bloc app, interviewing students and mentors, or adding the final aesthetic polish for a presentation
Creating a delightful user experience for our students and mentors, from concept to development
Working with stakeholders on cross-functional teams to find the correct design solution
Communicating and documenting design decisions with clarity and vigor
Being the voice of design for multiple projects
Designing responsive layouts for web and mobile.
Prototyping and testing concepts
Delivering pixel-perfect visual design
Developing and maintaining documentation for designs
Extending Bloc’s brand across a variety of collateral ranging from physical goods to purely digital
Skills we value
We’re looking for someone with the following skills:
Excellent holistic design skills — including wireframing, prototyping, and visual design
Enthusiasm for designing & extending a high quality brand
Responsive or mobile-first design experience
Excellent typography, color theory, and layout skill
Skilled at your tool of choice, be it Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, et al.
Enthusiasm to try new tools. We’re an education company, and we hope you’re as enthusiastic
about learning as we are.
Clear writing, and excellent communication of design decisions
Enthusiasm for working in an unstructured environment — you'll take a project and run with it.
Bonus: animation and frontend development skills go a long way!
